Listening

Alirght so this weekend I went home to return to my summer job for labor day weekend. I didn't really plan on doing my listening expirenment at work but as I was sitting inside with the door open I started listening to the people outside discussing their golf rounds and the caddies sitting around talking about how much money they made or how made at me they were for not getting to go out on the course and caddy. It was interesting to hear people talk about their golf game esspically when I know for a fact that most of them are lieing about the shots they claimed to have hit. I caddied for 5 years before I got promoted and I know most of the guys golf games well enough to know when someone it lieing about breaking 80 when I would bet money on him not being able to break 100. The caddies are also fun to listen to because three of them were having a conversation about me and my boss and it was kinda cool to hear what they really think of you. One called me some R rated names because I guess I'm on a power trip and forgot where I came from but, that was easily the most fun part of the expirence.

I decided to listen the other night when i got back to my room. I got back to my room pretty late and realized that there were a lot of noises that i never really noticed while living in kilhefner. For whatever reason i realized people feel compeled in ashland to have what sounds like high powered motorcycles fly by over the road humps to the wee hours in the morning. And i also noticed drunk people feel compeled to yell really loud outside. All sweet things to listen to that late at night

I don't think that silence is really a word. Throughout this experiment I noticed that there really isn't such a thing as silence. There's almost always a noise no matter what it's just whether or not we allow oursleves to hear it. I was sitting in my room and I was astonished at how many sounds I really did hear. The sounds of the cars outside or the animals outside my window, the fan in my room or the people above me. There are so many sounds that I think we don't really realize

I went camping with my family this weekend. Obviously when you're outdoors you hear a lot of things but after you notice them initially, the sounds become silent because they go unnoticed. It was around 12:30 am on Sunday and me and my mom were sitting around the fire. She grabbed another piece of wood and placed it in the fire. We both just sat there and watched the flames change colors but I as I was watching I was listening too. The wood she put on made a loud popping noise (that my grandma complained about the next morning). Sometimes it would make a hissing sounds too. I don't know if the wood was treated and that's why it was making such weird noises but it was interesting to listen too. Ofcourse the other wood that was in the fire continued to crackle. I enjoyed listening to the fire that night.

Listening in my dorm room was something other than quiet. Fans were blowing, cars were driving by my room window, people were walking and talking down the sidewalk, and crickets were cherping. I thought to myself that the crickets were a little cliche but still, they were there. I did find out that closing your eyes, and just listening to your surroundings can be very relaxing, and makes it easy to fall asleep. Goodnight.
