I decided the dining hall would be a good place to sit and look at my surroundings. While I was sitting there I starting over hearing a converstation that was going on in the booth behind me. I wasn't really paying attention to what they were saying but their voices became background noise as I looked around lower convo. As I was looking around, I noticed how much was going on. There were people moving all the time. It was very busy. Most people were rushing to the steak line and others going to find thier seats with their friends. It was interesting to see so much activity that I never realized was going on before.

Today's class was fun I thought. I am excited to take this course but I can feel its going to be different than what me and probably a lot of other expected. I am glad that their are not high expectations to be an amazing actor in this class because I do not think I would be very successful. Our activities were fun but they also taught a lesson. I noticed that when I was actually doing something instead of just standing there in front of my peers that it made me feel more comfortable. I think it took my mind off the fact that I was being watched and brought my attention to something new. Also the conductor activity and the whiz/bang activity taught a good point too. You have to be understood and be clear in your instructions to get what you want. I like learning in creative ways and hands-on so I think this class is going to be a good time.

Watching my surroundings... Hmmm, I've been doing that for years. It's fun to just stop once in a while and take in everything, knowing full well that I'm noticing all the little nuances that everyone else is moving too fast to notice.

Here is a question for thought: How can we feel so compfortable sitting (or standing) still observing our surroundings yet feel so uncompfortable doing the same thing if people are watching us?

It may not be very creative, but since I was in my room for most of the day, I decided to observe that. At the time, there wasn't a whole lot of activity going on, but I noticed other things that I normally wouldn't have paid any attention to. One thing I noticed was that despite how much duck tape we use, I saw several things already peeling off the wall. Another thing was that although my roommate and I both had our beds made and clothes were put away, random things were thrown around the room that we haven't picked up yet. I left a bunch of books and mail on my bed and floor while Sarah left her purse and WalMart bag laying on the floor by her desk. Now that I noticed it, it kind of makes me wonder what this place will look like in a couple weeks!

well if you cant figure out who i am from my screen name just go with what rojo stands for in spanish it means red. So its me David. I decided to just sit in a hallway at my fraternity house, the Phi Kappa Psi house. you would think in the afternoon there would be almost no activity, but to prove me wrong there was tons of it. Brothers going in and out of eachothers rooms, and shouting down the hallway. There was at least something going on in each room that included one or more brother. Some rooms did though only have one person in them, but that was only a few.

Overall there was so much activity people rushing in and out of the house and going up and down the stairs constantly. I do belive this class will be fun, well for me atleast i will be on the other side of the camera for once as opposed to me directing someone else to act.

so i decided to sit in my room because i seem to be spending a lot of time in here and ive been here for over two weeks now and i never realized that i can hear people playing tennis outside my window. my walls were recently painted but i actually just noticed that there are splotches of black paint on the ceiling and even more colors on the radiator.there is also a huge circle on my ceiling from the previous light fixture which has been replaced by a ceiling fan. and now my room reeks of charcoal and lighter fluid because the TKEs are having a BBQ!

Hey this is Tim, and I'm posting anonymous because I already forgot my username and password, haha. Anyways...I chose to sit in my dorm room during a relatively quiet time of the day and see how it worked out. There is alot more noise than you would think around here. I think there is an all out football game going on in the dorm above me, for one thing. My roommate left Neil Young playing on his computer, and it gives the room an eerie feel. A fan is blowing, and light objects around the room are rustling about. I can hear everyone outside. It's kind of depressing, because I'm just sitting here. That's about all!

Today I sat and observed the convoians. That is the name I have given to those who eat at convo. I sat alone at a table to watch people interact with eachother while eating. I thought this would be a very interesting combination. I was very entertained watching people's eating habbits and they way they would converse with eachother while eating. My attention was directed towerds and kid who was very sloppy and appeard to have no edicate. His face was practically in his plate while he shoved the food into his mouth.

One part that I enjoyed was watching people laugh. Most of the time I started laughing just watching them laugh. All the unique laughs, and all the very odd annoying laughs. And of course the who try to hold in their food while laughing. Convo seems like a very joyous place.

Alright, so today I decided that I would people watch in the rec center. I'm very glad I chose this as my spot over convo or other spots around campus. I got on one of the eliptical machines and just watched people working out. I noticed how often the other people on cardio machines would look at the computer screens that were keeping track of their progress on that machine. Other people who were using iPods were often pulling them out and changing their song. People's faces were very serious. The part of this trip that was so much fun for me was watching the AU power lifting club in the free weight section if you guys havne't seen this yet its quite a sight. It's a bunch of guys who for the most part look like they played highschool football and are quite big and when they lift weight the faces they make are priceless. Every once in awhile they yell and scream during their lift and it was better than watching tv.

Today, I watched people in classes. I am taking a few classes with some younger students and the way they present themselves in class is very interesting to me. The younger students seem like they are afraid to ask the professor any questions. Asking the professor a question during class would put them on the spot and on display in front of the class. Being the student in who puts them in a venerable position that they feel uncomfortable being in.

Honestly I really came upon this observation assignment by accident....As the young stallion that I am I decided to go for a little run today right around the time the sun is high in the sky and if lesser men were caught in the direct sunlight at that same time it would have seared their skin from bone but not mine...Anyways, as I was running I began to observe the surrounding area and I ended up running up to a practice field over by the Ashland high School and Community stadium...I ran a few laps and over in the community stadium the 8th grade Ashland football team was getting ready to play a game against another 8th grade team...And as I heard the announcer over the crappy Community stadium speakers it brought me back to my younger days but it also did more....As I noticed the game I began to notice other things, like the warm sun sinking in the open cloudless sky and the feel of dead and dying grass under my feet, I noticed when the wind blew against my cheek and in the trees that the weakest of the leaves on the trees finally started to succomb to the pressure of mother nature furiously trying to tear them from their branch shelter, and far off in the distance I thought I could hear the faint hum of a lawnmower making one last cut of the year.....and then it hit me....If i had no idea what the date was, if I was utterly innocent or naive to any sort of calender and the idea of time, I would still no it was that time of year for football to begin, for the leaves to start to turn, and for one last time we would have a few months left to enjoy the outdoors before it got too cold.....Needless to say I didn't stay for the 8th grade game because they both sucked pretty bad and it was getting hott....

To AJ

Here is an interesting thing to try. Go back to the convo and watch people eat again. This time pay attention as to wether or not they touch their food with their tongue before it goes into their mouth. Or maybe I'm just weird...

Today I observed people during dinner at convo. It's a typical place to people-watch, since there are usually so many people there. The first and most obvious thing I noticed was the cliques and groupings of certain kinds of people. The football and baseball players sat on one side of convo, and stereotypically, their TVs were tuned to ESPN. On another side is where all the fraternity brothers sat. Near them were the soccer and volleyball players, and for some reason the fishbowl is home to mostly foreign students. This was not the first time I have noticed these distinct sections of convo, but writing it down makes it seem more real. Other than that, I experienced a typical meal at convo; people were loud and conversing with one another, and when someone dropped their plate and shattered it, a typical "oooooooooh" from everyone else filled the room.

I was sitting outside of Kate's Center this morning and I was amazed how the people acted like we did in our class on Tuesday. They were uncomfortable with someone just sitting there watching them.

I can't wait to see what this course does for my acting. I have never really been taught the foundations or the basics. I was just kind of thrown into it.

This morning I went up to Huron Ohio and went fishing with a few friends of mine. As the morning drifted away I just sat, closed my eyes and listened to my surroundings. After closing my eyes and shutting down those senses, I could really concentrate on what I heard. I could hear birds flying around above me, the waves hitting the side of the boat and the wind as it passed by my ears. But the sound that had the most impact on me was the sound of tires screeching in the distance followed by a long and loud crashing sound. I knew that the highway was only a few miles down stream from where we were, i assumed the accident happened there. When I heard it, I opened my eyes and asked my friends if they heard the same sounds. None of them heard the tires screeching and crash. It then hit me that when you concentrate on listening you can hear so much more.... or I can hear the cries of people who are in danger, similar to superman.
